Chef Po

February 18, 2007

Po has recently developed an appreciation of cooking. His interest doesn’t last terribly long, but it does long enough for him to make a difference in the kitchen. A few days back he cooked his own breakfast – scrambled eggs with cheese Al Bundy style – one hand stirring the eggs, the other down his jammies. Today he cooked his own lunch for the first time – Maggi ala Po. He did most of the work himself – getting the pan out, filling it with enough water, boiling it, dropping all the ingredients in, and then some extras.

Daddy: Ok, now take a spoon out and stir it. Don’t drop it into…
Po: Oops! The spoon fell into the Maggi!
Daddy: That’s ok, I’ll fish it out.
Po: Can you put some ketchup in it please?
Daddy: Sure.
Po: And some mustard.
Daddy: Mustard in Maggi?
Po: Ya!
Daddy: Who puts mustard in their Maggi? Ok, but you better eat it all.
Po: Can you stir it for me please? It’s really hot.
Daddy: Ok.
Po: Can you put a little drink into it?
Daddy: Drink?
Po: Ya, like the time I asked you to put it into the eggs.
Daddy: You want some Aranciata in your Maggi?
Po: Yes.
Daddy: Powie, you’re the only person on the planet who puts Aranciata in their Maggi!
Po: That’s because I like stylish food.
Daddy: Well ok, as long as you eat it.
Po: Thank you daddy, you’re now a good daddy. [he’d been calling me Bad Daddy all day long]
Daddy: Ok, now turn the stove to off.

Po sits down to eat. Time passes.

Po: Daddy, what happened at the end of the Eklavya movie yesterday?
Daddy: You mean after you fell asleep?
Po: Yes.
Daddy: Well, everyone lived happily ever after.
Po: That does not give me any information.
Daddy: Ok, what do remember before you fell asleep?
Po: He went away from the fort and went to another fort.
Daddy: Right, he went to take revenge for the king’s murder.
Po: What does revenge mean?
Daddy: It means he went to kill the people who killed his king.
Mommy: So basically all the bad people died, and all the good people lived happily ever after.
Po: So how did he kill them?
Mommy: He went to their houses and…
Po: He did a sneak attack?
Mommy: No, no, he did it out in the open – he came to their houses and said he’s going to avenge the king’s murder.
Po: And then what happened?
Mommy: I’m not talking to you until you finish eating your Maggi.
